ApplyBoard expands office footprint at the Galleria!

ApplyBoard, the world’s largest online platform for international student recruitment, has expanded yet again at the Galleria in downtown Kitchener.  The highly-decorated startup is coming off an exciting time, receiving $70 M in Series C funding, supplementing their impressive $100 M secured earlier this year. Adding to their continued success, the tech unicorn was also recently named the 3rdbest Canadian startup on LinkedIn’s 2020 Top Startup list. With a countless list of accolades, ApplyBoard has demonstrated its unmatched ability and drive to provide the best educational opportunities to students around the world.

Europro first welcomed ApplyBoard to the Galleria on January 1st, 2019, leasing over 30,000 SF on the sixth floor. “We had originally looked at locating them in a neighbouring building, but understanding their plans for growth, we encouraged them to look at the Galleria where we knew they’d have the most flexibility,” explained Crystal Heenan, Europro Director of Property Management & Leasing. On August of 2019, ApplyBoard expanded into an additional 15,000 SF on the fifth floor, bringing their total square footage to over 45,000 SF.

With the requirement to accommodate for their growing staff, ApplyBoard needed to increase their office presence at the Galleria once again. In addition to their offices on the fifth and sixth floors, the team would now also add another 29,000 SF on the second floor of the building. “Once expanded on the second floor, Applyboard will have 75,000 SF, growing by 44,000 SF in less than two years’ time,” mentioned Heenan.

Offering our in-house construction and project management services, we have been diligently working to transform ApplyBoard’s new space. Our construction team led by Tom Hearn has made extensive upgrades to the second-floor unit. “The project began with demolition of existing finishes, floors, wallpapers and ceiling tiles. The team removed and modified walls to accommodate the new layout, including the rebuilding of new offices. We have also installed new electrical, plumbing and made HVAC modifications. To wrap up the project we installed new flooring, paint and custom millwork,” explained Hearn.

Combining the use of our in-house construction team and hired contractors, we have been able to meet the short timeline for the transformation of the large space. “Having a construction team that knows the portfolio of properties saves time and money for the tenant. The construction team is able to foresee issues, avoid problems and make the time spent on site more productive,” revealed Hearn.

As we put the finishing touches, the Europro team is ecstatic to welcome ApplyBoard to their new space. “Handing over the keys to a tenant when a project is completed is always exciting, it is truly the reward for the countless hours of planning and weeks of carefully coordinated construction,” mentioned Hearn.
