Downtown Kitchener is thriving, establishing itself as the "place to be."
The downtown core is bustling with activity, thanks to numerous events and festivals drawing impressive crowds and creating a lively atmosphere that everyone can enjoy.
Recently, Kitchener saw about 22,000 attendees for Canada Day weekend celebrations, showcasing the community's enthusiasm and spirit. Additionally, the K-W Ribfest and Craft Beer Show attracted nearly 40,000 visitors over three days at Victoria Park, highlighting the area's capacity to host large-scale events successfully.
It's not just the major events bringing people downtown. The BIA's sunset sessions on Vogelsang Green have been packed on Friday nights, and the weekly Latin dancing in Carl Zehr Square has gathered many locals, who also support nearby restaurants and businesses. These activities are fostering a sense of community and encouraging more foot traffic in the downtown area.
The appeal of downtown Kitchener extends beyond entertainment, as many are choosing to make it their home. Over the past five years, around 3,000 new residential units have been added, housing about 5,000 new residents in the core. With another 1,600 units under construction, an additional 3,000 people are expected to move in over the next two to three years. This residential boom is contributing to the dynamic and vibrant landscape of the downtown area.
Downtown Kitchener's vibrancy is on an upward trajectory, making it a fantastic place to live, work, and play. The ongoing development and community engagement activities are positioning it as a prime location for both residents and visitors, ensuring its continued growth and success.
