Europro and Lambton Mall hosted the 11th annual CANstruction event from March 1 – March 19, in support of the Inn of the Good Shepherd's food bank.
This year’s theme was, "Out of This World," which inspired 12 teams to create astonishing structures focusing on aliens, spaceships, and the solar system.
The event kicked off with teams transporting their cans into the mall, followed by a full day of building. The structures, once completed, remained on display for the public to admire.
On March 19, the structures were de-canned, and the food was boxed up to stock the food bank's shelves.
Myles Vanni, the Executive Director of The Inn, expressed his gratitude for the tremendous support from the community. He noted that this year's event collected over 52,000 food items, weighing more than 56,000 pounds, and raised over $30,000, which includes sponsorship contributions and the People's Choice award, generating approximately $10,000.
Among the winners, CF Industries' 'Star Wars' display stood out, winning the Judge's Favorite award for the second consecutive year, in addition to the People’s Choice award. The display also received accolades for Best Use of Labels and Structural Ingenuity.
Shell won the Best Meal award, while Worley was recognized for the Best Use of Theme.
YMCA Newcomers Youth won the Junior Outstanding award and Rookie Team of the Year award with their ‘Tardis’ display.
The Carpenters Union 1256 took home the Most Cans award.
Europro and Lambton Mall were proud to be part of an event that not only showcased creativity and teamwork but also made a significant impact on the local community.
The success of CANstruction reaffirmed Sarnia's commitment to supporting those in need and highlighted the community's caring nature.
